I LOVE this book so far! The dynamics that Will and Lake have created is just beautiful. They are so in love and so happy!!

Which is why I'm PISSED at Lake right now!!

Stop being such a stupid bitch!!

And skank ho, you need to just GTFO!

I'll finish reviewing once I'm done with the book and I've had some Valium and a drink. ;-)

~*~*~*~ UPDATE: Finished Book 06/13/13 ~*~*~*~

I had many moments where I wanted to:

...

Where Lake was concerned, I spent most of the book going:

...

And Will... Whoa! DUDE!?? What the hell? You didn't do anything wrong! Why are you putting yourself through this?! I just wanna:

What Lake's mother did was incredibly wise and incredibly sweet.

...

While I think his groveling was unnecessary, because HE DID NOTHING WRONG, Will's effort at the end to win Lake back had me all:

And while I think there were just WAY too many insecurities and completely bullshit bitchiness on her part (view spoiler)[ reading the two of them working it out:

...

(hide spoiler)]

All said and done... I was put through the ringer and I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!! GO! READ!! NOW!!!

And I determined that for them:

Should you read this book? Yes! Would an older age group enjoy it? I think so... it reminded me of when I was in middle school/high school. I think it applies to any time period! VERY good book! :-)

REVIEW: Married to the Bad Boy (Non-Published)

TITLE: Married to the Bad Boy
AUTHOR: embrace_passion
PRINT LENGTH: 48 Pages
MY RATING: ★ ★ ★ ★
PUBLISHED: 2013
LANGUAGE: English
RATING: New Adult
GENRE: Romance, Drama
WARNING(S): Domestic Abuse
LOCATION OF STORY: Click here

When I first saw this story over on Wattpad.com when it came up in my story search results:

My thoughts? Yet another bad boy fic, I see. Then, the title caught my eye and I was all:

I decided, meh! - what the hell? I started reading it and I was immediately hooked and fell in love with the main characters, Brandon and Kami:

BRANDON (Played by Sean Faris)

Brandon is a player, a bad boy. He gets what he wants and all the girls fall at his feet. He's cocky, arrogant and to be honest, a bit of a douche. But he's also sweet, kind and caring. He does like his women, though... which makes for some interesting scenes in the story since he marries Kami to keep her safe. However, they also make the deal to anull the marriage as soon as they graduate in a few months. You find that while Brandon is an ass to everyone else, he actually comes across as being very considerate of Kami, even when he's being...well...Brandon.

KAMI (Played by Ashley Benson)

She can be a bit annoying in beginning. She seems a little too timid and almost painfully innocent at times. However, you find that you can overlook it and even begin to understand it after a couple of chapters. After a while, it becomes endearing almost.

THE VILLIANS

Not. Who. You. Think!!

THE HAPPIES THAT MAKE FOR HAPPINESS

While they are on vacation, I'm going to tell you right now... there's something wrong with you if you don't fall in love with this cuter than cute couple, especially since they decide to stay together!

IN CONCLUSION

Are there issues with the book? Yes. There are some grammar problems. HOWEVER, the author knows about it and she is working to correct them as quickly as possible. She has an editor and any new chapters that come out go through the editor first and the older ones are being edited as they are gotten to. Honestly, that's the only problem/issue that I can find with this piece! I freaking LOVE this story! It has heart, meat and characters you can fall in love with. In the end:

And he’s determined to find out what it is—if only he can get her to open up and let him in. . . .

REVIEW:
This book reached in and ripped my guts out, one page at a time. The intensity and detail of the writing was amazing and I couldn't, literally, put the book down. I stayed up late, read on the way to work and finished it during my lunch break. The characters were beautifully flawed, the scene setting dirty and believable and most of all, REAL.

Cassie's life is spot-on for her situation. Desperate, broken and depressed; accepting of her (forced upon) fate. She wants more, but doesn't believe that she really deserves it and therefore takes what's given to her and rolls with the punches. Literally.

Tucker is exciting, gifted and broken in his own ways, but he adores Cassie from the instant he sees her. He wants her to have better and strives to show her that she deserves it. Their lives are polar opposite, but they are drawn together despite it. And of course, when you have this much difference... fires ignite and they are stripped apart.

But the end gives you so much hope, that it makes it all worth it. In short, I regret nothing when it comes to devouring this book!

SUMMARY:

Ryan Cosgrove and Liliana Delgado are on a collision course with destiny. They don’t know it yet, but before the night is over their lives will be forever changed.

Spending Valentine’s Day at a burlesque bar, hadn’t been Liliana’s ideal way of spending a Friday night. She’d much rather be back on campus doing homework… until she meets Ryan. Tall, athletic, and gorgeous, Lili can’t keep her eyes off him, and despite his gruff manners and drunken disposition she’s intrigued.

Ryan’s got demons, and they’re deep, dark, and eating him alive. Regardless of his attraction to the petite brunette he’s tired of fighting, of pretending the last fifteen years haven’t been a daily struggle just to get out of bed every morning. That night he decides to end his pain, to leave it all behind and float away into the blessed darkness of oblivion.

But fate has other plans for him, Lily finds and rescues Ryan, determined she’ll not only save his body, but his soul too. This is their moment…

REVIEW:

I can honestly say that this book was not what I was expecting. Ryan has demons... Whoa boy! - does he have demons. And they are one hell of a way for him to first meet Liliana and they make one hell of an impression. It's best to be warned that if sexual abuse of any kind affects you, then this is not the story for you to read. But if you can get past that, then this is an amazingly well-told piece of fiction that had me deeply effected.

The fact that this man, this amazing, beautiful man is able to pick up and with Liliana's help move on is astounding. And that he is able to accept her and her own past is every bit as amazing. These two people are compassionate and caring to others, but painful to themselves and you get wrapped up into them and pray for a Happily Ever After. Be warned, there are scenes that are misleading and throw you off, however.

REVIEW: Angelfall by Susan Ee

TITLE: Angelfall

LANGUAGE: English
PAGE COUNT: 284
RATING: Young Adult
GENRE: Post-Apocalyptic, Supernatural
ISBN: 9780761463276
PURCHASE LINKS: Amazon // Barnes & Noble

SUMMARY:

It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

REVIEW:

Angels? Seriously?

These were the two main thoughts that went through my mind when I saw this book. I'm not a 'when angels fall' kind of reader. I find the books desperately depressing and more than a little too far-fetched for my liking. However, it's amazing what desperation can lead you to reading. Besides, it had a decent cover!

The lead female character is Penryn. What can I say about her? Well, she's smart. And she's strong, emotionally and mentally. She has had to take care of both her mother and her little sister for quite sometime; it's made more difficult in that her sister is crippled and in a wheelchair. She's loyal and she's responsible and has taken a massive load onto her shoulders for a person who is only 17 yrs old.

The two lesser female characters are Penryn's mother and her sister. Penryn's (or Pen, as she is known in the book) mother is mentally ill and is an...shall we say 'interesting' character within the book. As stated before, her sister is in a wheelchair. While the circumstances surrounding her being in a wheelchair are never really explained, there is enough allusion to make you suspect something incredibly tragic had happened.

The male lead is the angel Raffe. As stated in the synopsis, Raffe ends up being stripped of his wings and has to learn how to be 'human'. He is more than the 'Strong, Silent Type'. He almost takes it to an extreme, but at times will show an amazingly gentle soul.

During the course of Pen's desperate escape from the city, she is cornered on a deserted street due to Raffe's confrontation with other angels. Pen attempts to draw the other angels' attention from Raffe and instead causes all of their attention to fall on her and her family; this results in her sister being abducted and taken to what is eventually known as 'The Aviary'. The story centers around Pen's resolution to find both her mother and her sister and get them all to safety. You learn that Pen is resourceful and has been well-trained in martial arts.

There were several things that I greatly enjoyed about this book. The first being that all of the fight scenes involving Pen were written very convincingly. Even down to remarking on the joke that I have with my husband:
Why yes. Because in 'real fights', the villains will always wait their turns to attack you.
In the fight scenes, it is realistic, rough and dirty. Pen has to use all of her knowledge and skills and the villians don't just stop because she's managed to get a few shots in. And given that it is a post-apocalyptic setting, desperation for survival make the fights all the more down and dirty.

The connection that you see beginning to develop between Raffe and Pen is believable as well. There's not an immediate "Oh My God, I can't live without you!' moment. As it grows, the reader feels it starting to creep into them, as well. You can't help but wish that the two of them could just work it all out! You spend the whole book wondering, "Is there going to be more? Oh No! - she's never going to trust him now! Wait... maybe...!" It's written in such a manner that you have to keep reading if for no other reason than to see what's going to happen between the main characters.

I personally loved the dialogue and the descriptions of Pen's thoughts. It was believable, or as believeable as an Angel Revolution Apocalypse can be at any rate. Raffe's dialogue could be a bit stiff at times, but when you look at the fact that he's a Fallen Angel, you find that you can usually overlook it.

The ending of this book, the final scene, almost had me in tears. It was heartbreaking and well written.

Now... there were a couple of things that I had a hard time with. I can't go into great detail, given that to do so would create the need for major spoilers. However, I can allude to them.

The first issue is what the angels are doing with all of the abducted children. Personally, I found this a completely unnecessary plot device, but since there's a sequel coming out shortly, I figure that it's probably going to be central in that piece.

Secondly, I was never able to really figure out what the angels were doing in the city other than what was going on with the abducted children. It seemed like towards the end, the author sort of jumbled a lot of information together and left the reader to sort it out.

The last issue I had is what ends up happening to Raffe. Again, I felt that it was a bit overdone and not really necessary as many other things had already hit you in the gut. Not only that, but I was not completely clear as to why it was done. Again, as I stated, the end of the book felt like an overload of information.

All in all, it was great read and I found that I was able to read it fairly quickly. The writing was excellent and well-paced for my liking and while I had a hard time suspending my disbelief on some of the points in the book, overall I found that I really enjoyed it! I definitely recommend it to other supernatural lovers and to people who enjoy reading post-apocalypse books.

Review:

The Bastion was humanity’s last hope against the fearsome undead creatures known as the Inferi Scourge.

A fortified city with a high wall, surrounded by lush land rich with all the resources needed to survive, protected by high mountain summits, and a massive gate to secure the only pass into the valley, the Bastion became the last stronghold of the living on earth. But one fateful day, the gate failed and the Inferi Scourge destroyed the human settlements outside the walls and trapped the survivors inside the city. Now decades later, the last remaining humans are struggling to survive in a dying city as resources and hope dwindle.
Vanguard Maria Martinez has lived her whole life within the towering walls of steel. She yearns for a life away from the overcrowded streets, rolling blackouts, and food shortages, but there is no hope for anyone as long as the Inferi Scourge howl outside the high walls. Her only refuge from the daily grind is in the arms of her lover, Dwayne Reichardt, an officer in the Bastion Constabulary. Both are highly-decorated veterans of the last disastrous push against the Inferi Scourge. Their secret affair is her only happiness. Then one day Maria is summoned to meet with a mysterious representative from the Science Warfare Division and is offered the opportunity to finally destroy the Inferi Scourge in the valley and close the gate. The rewards of success are great, but she will have to sacrifice everything, possibly even her life, to accomplish the ultimate goal of securing the future of humanity and saving it from extinction.

I'm all about zombies! The Walking Dead, Resident Evil, Night of the Living Dead? - Love them! I decide one evening that I'm going to find a zombie book to read. I do a search and I find a ton of them! So, I did what every good reader does; I chose the one with the coolest looking cover! What? Don't judge me! We all do it!

At any rate, I was a bit hesitant when I grabbed it as I had never heard of the author. But I have to say that this has become one of my favorite books! The author took the time to really develop her backstory and put a lot of effort into creating characters that the reader can relate to in a situation that is completely unrelatable (bath salts incidents notwithstanding).

The main female character, Maria, is a woman who is believably strong. Even as events unfold throughout the book, you never once catch yourself groaning over her behavior. She's bad ass, strong, smart, determined and honorable. However, she doesn't have that tortured, emotionally damaged, I don't need anyone persona surrounding her, either. In a world where humans are literally caged animals held in by zombies, you can see how and why Maria is the way that she is.

The main male character, Dwayne, is truly amazing as well. He's a well decorated military vetern who is placed into a administrative position after he's injured during a key campaign. You can tell that he still years, like any combat vertern, to be back in the action, but he understands his limitations. His relationship with his family and with Maria are true-to-life and not the typical "mind blowing sex/life is great through these rose colored glasses" drama that everyone is so used to reading.

I found that I actually quite liked the explanation behind the origination of the zombies. I will be honest and say that yes, I do think zombies are a possibility. But not in the sense that everyone thinks. And this book actually captures my take on it very well!

The plot develops at an acceptable pace and it doesn't have you in the middle of the book thinking to yourself, "Lord, is it ever going to end?!" She writes in an easy to read, easy to understand way that results in a book allows you to enjoy yourself rather than sitting there trying to figure out what exactly she meant.

The action scenes are very well done, especially the first scene of the book where we meet Maria and Dwayne. You can visualize it unfolding in front of you and you realize at the same moment that the characters do that this is not going to end well. She writes the battle thoughts and feelings in a way that you find yourself saying, "Yeah... yeah, I could see that!"

Now, as with every book, there are always downsides. This one has a few as well. And the one big one for me is still a tad difficult for me to get past.

First of all, every sci-fi book has it's 'Suit'. You know? - the guy/woman who wears a suit, works for the corporation that is the root of all evil, yaddda, yadda, yadda? Well, yeah... this book has one of those, too. And it's not so much that this book has a 'Suit' that has me bothered. It's the way that the 'Suit' acts. He rather reminds me of Albert Wesker from the Resident Evil movies. But at the same time, it almost seems as if this particular 'Suit' is vindicative almost to an extreme. And there never seemed to be an explanation as to why he was like that.

My second issue was the idea of a 'Mecca Last Place On Earth For Humans' seems a little fantastical in my opinion. I feel that the human populace wouldn't sequester themselves in a place such as they have in this book. I think it would be more plausible that instead of inserting themselves with their backs against a mountain and a valley that could be easily overrun, that they would have fortified a large (at the time pretty much unsettled) island.

I also have to say that the origin of the virus more than had me rolling my eyes and letting out a heartfelt groan. This was a cop-out I think. I think she had to explain where it came from and this was the best she could do. I can't go into any additional details without giving key points... you'll have to read the book to understand! :-)

Despite the issues I had, and I have never read a book where there wasn't at least one thing that I was groaning over, this was probably one of my most enjoyable reads. I read it in three days and I will definitely be reading it again. I definitely recommend this book for any other zombie lovers!
